The Sant’Anna School and the Divisione Vittorio Veneto of the Italian Army have signed today in Pisa a memorandum of understanding to develop initiatives on the topics of security and crisis management. The signing ceremony took place on the occasion of the conference “The Impact for Africa of the Conflict in Eastern Europe: A Challenge to International Security”. The agreement between the Sant’Anna School and the Divisione Vittorio Veneto aims at strengthening expertise and knowledge in relation to political, legal, social and economic aspects relevant for crisis management processes. The document was signed by the Rector of the Sant’Anna School Sabina Nuti and General Angelo Michele Ristuccia, Commander of the Divisione Vittorio Veneto, at the presence of Andrea de Guttry, full professor of international law at the Sant'Anna School and organizer of the conference on the impact on Africa of the conflict in Eastern Europe.

The conference of Thursday 22 September put at the center of debate significant global issues, such as the collective system of international security, international trade, food supply chains, the availability of energy sources and essential raw materials, the safeguard of the environment and the ecological conversion. All these issues are heavily influenced by the course of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

“The signing of the memorandum is an important step – noted Rector Sabina Nuti – in the development of initiatives that aim at advancing – due regard given to the different institutional mandates of the parties involved – excellence in research and training on issues of extreme relevance, for the future of our World, starting from the African continent, which is at the center of the Sant’Anna School’s strategy of international cooperation”.

“Today’s conference on the impact for Africa of the conflict in Eastern Europe – underlines Prof. of international law Andrea de Guttry – is a tangible example of dialogue among all the institutional components involved on matters of security and crisis management, in the context of the comprehensive approach advocated for by NATO strategic documents”.
